ERRANDS: EDUCATIONAL, ENTERTAINING, ENJOYABLE
SHOP FOR GROCERIES AT A FARMERS'MARKETNext time you need veggies, seek out the closest fresh foods market available. From June to November (barring an early freeze), farm-direct produce can be found at market four days out of 7. Errand #1 is called such because there may be a few minutes more in drive time, or a work-around in the schedule required. But for 'green' thumbs, it is worth the trouble! Buying from local growers does conserve energy, improve quality, and invest in our community's economy.
TAKE THE RAPIDRIDE: $1Errand #2 - For those living in the Nob Hill area, the RapidRide's Central route can get residents from the uptown banks to downtown Botanical Gardens in a hands-free low-stress excursion. Music in the park, or a walk around Old Town are perfect outtings for the family, or when guests visit. Our personal favorites on the route: Reef Cafe at the aquarium to watch sharks and sea turtles, the newly renovated public library on 5th, and the cinema at 1st and Central - sometimes they get great art films too.
OBSERVE MOTHER NATURE!Errand #3 - Take a trip to the Botanical Gardens... unfamiliar plants in your garden? seeking new varieties? See what xeric varieties look like when they are more mature. Observe the conditions surrounding favorite plants and pick a similar spot at your home. Consider sun exposure first. The specimens are often labeled for easy I.D.
LEARN TO COMPLIMENT MOTHER NATURE!Errand #4 - Painted surfaces in outdoor spaces are invigorating and atmospheric. If your space has an ugly wall, add color to camoflage the The color will also create a canvas or backdrop to your plant choices. Experience great color by finding the Benjamin Moore dealer in your area. Closest to Nob Hill is Custom Paint Center on Lomas NE. Environmentally sensitive, Benjamin Moore has provided fantastic colors with incredible coverage for only a bit more.
ENJOY MOTHER NATURE!Errand #5 - Take a fifteen minute walk in the neighborhood. After the summer sun sets, a brief stretch around the block provides exercise and an opportunity to see new ideas in gardens just next door or down the street. This will help plan your outdoor space using plants already successful in the local area. As a bonus, friendly residents may be out and up for a chat or questions from the curious.
